ABOUT GEORGE
George Lopez is a comedy icon and cultural force whose groundbreaking, multi-faceted career spans television, film, stand-up, late-night, and publishing. A trailblazer for Latino performers, Lopez has consistently embraced his heritage, shattered stereotypes, and used his platform to uplift his community—earning his place as one of the most influential voices in entertainment.
Lopez’s final stand-up comedy special, Muy Católico, premiered on Amazon Prime Video on February 18 to critical acclaim. Filmed live at the legendary Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the special dives into aging, Latino family dynamics, generational clashes, and cultural quirks—all delivered with his signature wit and sharp observations. He currently stars alongside his real-life daughter, Mayan Lopez, in NBC’s hit multi-camera sitcom Lopez vs Lopez, now in its third season. The show offers a fictionalized, heartfelt, and hilarious take on their father-daughter relationship, exploring dysfunction, healing, and the complexities of reconnection.
In 2023, Lopez joined the DC Extended Universe with a scene-stealing role in Warner Bros.’ Blue Beetle, the franchise’s first Latino-led superhero film. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto and featuring a predominantly Latino cast, the film marked a cultural milestone. He also brought his comedic chops to the Amazon MGM sports comedy The Underdoggs, produced by and starring Snoop Dogg.
A powerhouse on stage, Lopez’s stand-up legacy includes four acclaimed HBO specials: The Wall (2017), It’s Not Me, It’s You (2012), Tall, Dark and Chicano (2009)—a Grammy nominee for Best Comedy Album—and America’s Mexican(2007). His 2004 Showtime special, Why You Crying?, and Grammy-nominated albums El Mas Chingon (2006) and Team Leader (2004) remain fan favorites and essential entries in modern comedy.
On the small screen, Lopez has headlined and created multiple series that reflect his unique voice. He produced and starred in Lopez, a semi-autobiographical single-camera sitcom on TV Land, and co-created and starred in FX’s Saint George. He broke new ground as the host of Lopez Tonight on TBS, becoming one of the few Latino late-night hosts in television history. His eponymous ABC sitcom, George Lopez, which he co-created, wrote, produced, and starred in, ran for six successful seasons and continues to resonate with audiences in syndication on Nick at Nite and beyond.
Lopez’s filmography is equally dynamic, with standout roles in How the Gringo Stole Christmas, Walking with Herb(opposite Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell), No Man’s Land, The Tax Collector (with Shia LaBeouf), El Chicano, Valentine’s Day, The Spy Next Door (with Jackie Chan), and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. He also starred in and produced Spare Parts, an inspirational true story about four undocumented Mexican American teens who enter a national robotics competition.
His voice has brought life to numerous animated blockbusters, including Gnome Alone, Escape from Planet Earth, and beloved franchises like Rio, The Smurfs, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and Cats & Dogs.
Beyond entertainment, Lopez is a passionate advocate for Latino representation. His impact was spotlighted in the award-winning documentary Brown is the New Green: George Lopez and the American Dream, which explored his role in reshaping the Latino narrative in mainstream media.
In publishing, Lopez has captivated young readers with his bestselling middle-grade series ChupaCarter. The third book, ChupaCarter and the Screaming Sombrero, hit shelves in March 2024, continuing the supernatural adventures of Jorge and his friends as they navigate mysteries rooted in Latin folklore. The next installment, ChupaCarter and the Curse of La Llorona, arrives July 8, 2025. Blending humor, heart, and heritage, the series underscores Lopez’s dedication to empowering the next generation through storytelling.
In 2024, Time Magazine named George Lopez one of its Latino Leaders, honoring his enduring influence in entertainment and his relentless commitment to visibility, authenticity, and cultural pride.
